Seasons Change

Happy smiles run by,

Ice cream dripping

In the sun,

Lemonade and glee

Abound by the pool.

No school to distract

We enjoy all the love,

But alas, it must end

And with a breeze

It’s now fall.

Sweaters and leggings,

Hot chocolate, and tea,

It’s brisk all around

And pumpkins abound.

The ghouls come to haunt

Followed closely by turkeys,

Costumes and food

Distract us from work.

And then falls the snow,

Bringing close to the fall.

Carols are sung,

And we relax by the fire.

Families reunited,

Giving gifts filled with love.

Joy and hope

Make the memories of a lifetime.

The cold now drags on

As the cycle starts again.

New semester, new vows,

A new year of life.

The sun then peaks out

From behind all the cold.

Flowers grow up,

And we return outside

To frolic in the fields.

New friendships are made,

Until at last the summer returns.

Seasons change

And time wares ever on

Yet love remains constant

Where does your love come from?

Prospect of a Day

A sunrise and coffee,
Curled up with a book,
The day stretched ahead,
Filled with restful delight.

Coffee steam hits my face,
The scent envelopes my nose,
I feel the warmth in my hand,
As I take my first sip.

Cascading down my throat,
That warm, satisfying sensation,
The taste lingers in my mouth,
And warmth invades my stomach.

The book rests on my knees,
A story waiting to be told.
Characters beckon to me,
Begging me to join them.

As the caffeine hits my brain,
I join them in their world,
Putting off my to-do list.
Today is their day.

Depression

There once was a girl
In the corner who cried,
Alone with her tears,
She gave up her life.

But no one would notice.
Alone by herself,
She longed for the world,
But God had taken it,
And left her alone.

So her tears filled up the earth
Until nothing was left.
And peacefully the water,
Took away all her pain.

Tales from a Christian University

Chapel is near,
My heart embraces God,
Ready for worship,
I lift my voice in song.

On my left I see those
With hands lifted high,
Mirroring my love
For our creator and maker.

On this side
We are a university of God.
But on my left
There’s a different story.

I see students on phones,
Too absorbed to realize
The presence of God
That envelopes this room.

Ignoring their lover,
Finding peace in possessions,
I wonder how it is
They act so well as my leaders.

Yes officers and seniors,
Those supposed to set the bar,
Lower it instead,
As the freshmen take over.

Where is our love
For the maker of our class?
Why ignore the One
Who brings our future?

Thirty minutes a day
Is all that we ask.
Please worship in chapel.
Your cell phones can wait.

Let it Go

Let it go
they tell me.
Let go of the past,
of restraints,
Let go of the people
who try to hold you back.
You won’t be successful
if you show your dark side.
Let go of your obstacles,
But will all be okay?
Love is an open door,
not a locked room.
Isolation leads to doubt
and pain from your fears.
So let it go.
Let it go.
